Why Naha for Pokemon Cards?
Naha (那覇), the capital of Okinawa Prefecture, is Japan's southernmost major city and a popular tropical vacation destination. While small, the card shop scene is growing, with shops along Kokusai-dori (International Street) and in nearby shopping centers.
For visitors on an Okinawa beach vacation, card shopping in Naha offers a unique tropical twist. The city has direct flights from many Asian cities, and Kokusai-dori is a must-visit shopping street regardless. Card prices can be surprisingly competitive due to lower overhead costs.
Getting to Naha
- Okinawa Monorail (Yui Rail) - Makishi Station / Kencho-mae Station. Both stations are near Kokusai-dori.
- From Naha Airport - Yui Rail from Naha Airport to Makishi (about 15 minutes).
Tips for Foreign Visitors
- Kokusai-dori - International Street is the main tourist area. Some card shops are on side streets off this main road.
- Payment - Tourist-area shops generally accept credit cards. Smaller shops may be cash-only.
- Heat warning - Okinawa is hot and humid most of the year. Card shops make great air-conditioned refuges.
- US military base area - Some shops near military bases carry English Pokemon cards and American TCGs.
